Emergency Preparedness: How to Prevent Storm Damage for Billboard

It seems that another weather story becomes news every day. From heavy rains, strong winds to hurricanes, to the final ice storm, all the power is lost. No matter where we live, the weather will affect us with few warnings. The good news is that there are many ways to prepare for severe weather and prevent potential storm damage.

Here are some emergency preparedness tips you can easily do before and after the storm to limit the effect weather will have on your outdoor advertising billboard.

Usually, Our outdoor advertising billboard structure generally has a wind resistance of 10 to 11 grade and has a very high safety factor. However, in the face of devastating disasters caused by strong typhoons and super typhoons, only by taking adequate precautions can our outdoor unipole billboard during the typhoon raging season.

First of all, the normal anti-corrosion maintenance of the outdoor advertising billboard must be carried out once a year (except for the full hot-dip galvanized billboard). If rust, paint peeling, cracking, weathering, etc. are found, the substrate should be cleaned, rust removed, repaired, and recoated.

The maintenance of component connections (welds, bolts, etc.) should be checked once a year. If cracks in the weld or loose nodes are found, repair and tighten them in time.

The lighting, power supply, and electrical control equipment should be maintained once a month to ensure the safe use of electricity.

If the billboard utilizes electricity, you also have the billboard disconnected from its power source until the storm stopped. This will prevent anyone from getting electrocuted as well as preventing an electrical fire.

During the windy season, surprise inspection and maintenance of the billboard steel structure should be carried out. Pay attention to checking electrical safety during thunderstorm season.

Outdoor advertising billboard structure should undergo regular safety inspections to ensure safe use within the design service life. Painted anticorrosive steel structure should be tested every 2~3 years, and hot-dip galvanized steel structure should be tested every 5~8 years.

The safety inspection content includes structural strength, rigidity, stability check calculation review, and production and installation quality inspection; steel structure anti-corrosion and visual inspection of node connections; column foot connection and foundation safety inspection, electrical safety inspection, etc.

When encountering a typhoon that exceeds the wind resistance of the unipole billboard, the printing canvas poster and bottom plate or board should be temporarily removed before the typhoon arrives to fully reduce the wind resistance of the billboard surface and prevent the screen and bottom plate/ board from being blown to pedestrians or buildings.
